Modem/router

My modem is 6 years old; it frequently freezes and I have to repeatedly sign back on to streaming sites. I suspect that I need to upgrade. What are my choices?

Hi there! Six years is a pretty solid run for a modem or gateway, and frequent freezing can definitely mean the equipment is ready for retirement.

If you rent your modem or gateway from Xfinity, you can exchange it for a newer model at no additional equipment cost. The replacement provided will depend on your internet speed and what is available in your area. You can locate an Xfinity Store here: https://www.xfinity.com/local/store-offers

If you own the equipment, you would need to purchase a replacement that is approved for your current speed tier. You can check compatible devices here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices

Before replacing anything, please restart both the modem and router and make sure the coax and Ethernet cables are secure. Also, let us know whether the equipment is rented or customer-owned and provide the model number. We can help narrow down the best replacement option from there.
