Nighthawk Cax30 WiFi speed

Just installed the Cax30. I have a 400 speed internet with Xfinity. I get close to that going into the Cax30, but well under 100 wifi, even with the router and device next to each other. I have read that there are settings to try. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

Thanks for reaching out — we totally get how frustrating it is when your WiFi speeds don’t match your plan, especially when you’re right next to the router.

The Nighthawk CAX30 is capable of strong WiFi performance, so if you're getting full speeds wired but under 100 Mbps on WiFi, here are a few easy troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Restart your modem/router
Unplug it from the wall, wait about 30 seconds, and plug it back in. Let it reboot fully (about 2–3 minutes).

  2. Use the 5GHz WiFi network
If your router shows two networks (like "Home" and "Home-5G"), connect to the one ending in 5G — it’s faster, especially for close-range use.

  3. Get closer to the router
Even if you're nearby, try being in the same room with no walls in the way.

  4. Disconnect unused devices
Too many devices sharing the network can slow things down. Turn off WiFi on devices you’re not actively using.

  5. Run a quick speed test
Use  xfinity.speedtest.com to compare WiFi vs. wired speeds. That can help pinpoint where the slowdown is happening.

  6. Keep your router in the open
Avoid putting it behind furniture or in a cabinet. A clear space helps the signal travel better.

  7. Check if anything’s downloading
Streaming, software updates, or cloud backups on other devices can eat up bandwidth in the background.

If you’re still seeing slow WiFi after trying these, let us know — we’re happy to walk you through the next steps or help check for any settings that may need adjusting!
