I tried to call xfinity, well chat. I could not get them to tel me the internet connetion type, PPPoE or Stsati IP or what.
I can not get into my modem from my laptop to find out. I have a working system with a old mesh system. just trying to upgrade.

Try "Dynamic IP (DHCP)". PPPoE is used most often used with Telco DSL service, and Static IP (if that's what "Stsati IP" means) is not available to Xfinity residential customers.

Hello, @user_v563de thank you for taking time to reach out over Xfinity Forums. Were you able to see the information our helpful forum problem solver @BruceW had provided? That is correct, that we don't provide static IP addresses over residential service and don't use PPPoE, our residential service uses dynamic IP addresses. Please let me know if that was helpful.
