Paying for 1100 mbps and getting around 300 mbps

I did a quick assessment with the xfinity chat bot and it mentioned my equipment not being compatible. I'm using an Aris Surfboard SB8200 modem connected to a Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000. These should capable of running 1100 mbps speeds. When I run the xfinity speed test, I connect directly using an ethernet cable and through wifi and they are about the same (300 mbps). How do I get what I'm paying for?

cth1234 Thanks for reaching out about your speed issue, and equipment concern. We can certainly help get both concerns addressed for you!

Can you send us a direct message with your full name, name of account holder (if different), and service address please?

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon (speech bubble)

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it

... Aris Surfboard SB8200 ... should capable of running 1100 mbps speeds ...

The SB8200 is not compatible with Gigabit internet service. Comcast/Xfinity rates it for wired download speeds "Up to 957 Mbps". See the link to the "All Compatible Devices" PDF near the bottom of https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices (at the moment it points to https://assets.xfinity.com/assets/dotcom/projects/cix-4997_compatible-devices/2025.03.25%20Full%20List%20of%20Compatible%20Devices.pdf, but this changes from time to time). Using devices on Internet speed tiers for which they are not approved tends to produce unexpected results, often speeds well below the ones you are paying for.

AFAIK Comcast/Xfinity has never said how they provision devices operating on speed tiers they're not approved for. All I can tell you is that many customers who tried it have reported that they don't get full speed. There's a tendency to think the device will operate at the maximum speed it is capable of, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
