Picture freeze, rotating wheel

I have a new LG OLED 77" TV connected to internet via a Gateway and Extender. Every 2-4 days my picture freezes and the rotating wheel appears for a short time and then the program returns. The only way to stop this is to power cycle the Gateway. What else should I be doing?

Hi there @user_11xkkt. Are you having issues with any other devices in your home?

The problem occurs on no other devices.

In addtion to the initial problem my TV forgets which connection to use to connect to the internet every time it is shut down (I have 2 5Ghz and 2 2.4GHz connections available). This issue makes me think my problems are related to my LG TV. My download speed is fine.

Should I power cycle my Gateway on some regular basis?

I completely understand how frustrating this has been @user_11xkkt , and I appreciate all the troubleshooting you've already done. Let's focus on the freezing issue first, and once we get that concern addressed, we'll be happy to dive into any additional concerns you may have. Based on what you've described, intermittent freezing every 2–4 days can sometimes be related to the connection path between the TV and your network rather than a hardware failure. Since the issue is not constant, it can be especially difficult to isolate.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps that may help:

1. Connect the TV directly to the Gateway (Most Reliable Test)
If possible, connect an Ethernet cable directly from your Xfinity Gateway to the LAN port on your LG OLED TV. This temporarily bypasses WiFi and any extenders, helping determine whether the issue is wireless-related.

2. Try a Different DNS Server on the TV If you're using WiFi, you can test with a public DNS service:

Settings > All Settings
Network > Wi-Fi Connection
Advanced Wi-Fi Settings
Disable "Set Automatically" for DNS
Enter either:
8.8.8.8 (Google DNS), or
1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare DNS)
This can sometimes help if the TV has difficulty resolving streaming addresses through the router.

3. Test Without the Extender If you're using a WiFi extender, try unplugging it for a few days and connecting the TV directly to the main Gateway's WiFi. Some devices can occasionally have issues transitioning between the Gateway and extender signals.

4. Confirm Which WiFi Network the TV Is Using If you have separate WiFi network names available, connect the TV to the strongest and most stable option and monitor whether the freezing returns.

Since the issue only occurs every few days, any changes may need a little time to determine whether they've made a difference. I know that's not ideal, especially when the problem appears to disappear whenever troubleshooting is underway.
