Refresh WAN IP address

I live in Washington DC, where my Sling includes local stations like NBC and Fox.  Network maintenance last week resulted in me having a WAN IP address that appears to be in Richmond, VA, more than 100 miles from Washington and in a TV market that does include the local channels I am paying Sling for.

I researched how to fix this with Sling, and they say only "contact your internet provider".  I need to refresh my WAN IP address to one that the universe believes is in Washington DC suburbs so that I can again get the local channels included in my plan.

I tried the Xfinity AI Assistant to release and renew my WAN IP address, but no luck.  How can I get a new WAN IP address?

Thanks for your time and help.

"Contact your internet provider" won't help. Comcast/Xfinity assigns your public IP address, but they do not provide a way to change it, and they won't change it for you. And changing your public IP may not change where Sling thinks you are located. If you want to give that a try:

If you're using a rental Comcast device, you'd have to:

    1. swap out the gateway for another, or
    2. place the gateway in bridge mode and connect a Wifi router, or
    3. replace your gateway with customer-owned equipment

If you're using your own modem and router, you can use the router's "clone MAC" feature to change your IP.

A VPN is another possibility. If you use one your public IP won't actually change, but systems you connect to will see the IP provided by the VPN rather than your actual public IP.

Your best bet, if Sling will tell you which IP Geolocation provider they are using, is to contact the provider and have them correct their database. https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/fix-geolocation-of-my-ipaddress/666127b51e56d61567f91b4d?commentId=66618f1609e34b487ca2560a and https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/correct-geolocation-data may help you correct the location info.
