Router Admin Tool is disabled

I've enabled the admin tool and when I go to connect I still get the following message:

Managing your home network settings is now easier than ever. To manage your gateway settings and other features, please download the Xfinity app.

managing my network via the app is difficult and frustrating.

Thank you for reaching out here about your issue with the admin tool. The app is the best option to access that tool.

If you need to access the Admin Tool, use the following instructions to enable access.

  1. Visit the WiFi tab in the Xfinity app.
  2. Select View WiFi equipment and open Advanced settings.
  3. Select Admin Tool online access.
  4. Slide the toggle button to Allow Admin Tool access.
  5. Select Save.
  6. If you are enabling access for the first time, you will be taken to a screen to setup a new password to access the admin tool. Enter your new password and select Save.
  7. Visit http://10.0.0.1 while connected to your WiFi at home.
    • Username: admin
    • Password: Use the new password created when you enabled access. Users who enabled access prior to February 2026 may still use the default password found on the sticker on the bottom of your Xfinity WiFi Gateway.

Different user, same issue.

The app is unequivocally not the best option to access the Admin Tool. And all the forum posts and support tickets are proof of that.

The (my) app does not have the option to "View Wifi Equipment." There is no option to access Advanced Settings.

Why are customers locked out of the equipment we pay for by default? Access through http://10.0.0.1 has always been the default method.

I know you will direct me to either the support page for this topic or tell me to send a direct message to "Xfinity Support" because the virtual assistant is beyond useless. I'm not going to spend 2-3 hours being told the issue is, "understood," while being sent through the same instruction flow. Or to be told to sign a fresh account to pay for a higher speed. It's not a speed issue.

It's not your fault JohnG, you are running through your approved dialogue tree. Dealing with so many user inquiries must be frustrating. Escalate internally; this is a hassle that doesn't need to exist for employees and customer alike.

... app does not have the option to "View Wifi Equipment." ...

Is your gateway in Bridge Mode? If so you'll have to reset it to clear that, then use the app to enable Admin Tool access, and then turn Bridge Mode back on.

Thanks for reaching out. If the Admin Tool is redirecting you to the Xfinity app, please open the app and go to the Admin Tool in your settings, as outlined above.

If you don’t see those steps, I recommend deleting and reinstalling the app. Once reinstalled, all available Xfinity app features, including the Admin Tool, should appear so you can enable access.
