Should I upgrade to IP6? Is there a shortage of IP addresses?
I am a computer tech and know some networking. I am not proficient in cyber-attacks or defense (other than preconfigured Firewall, for example). I have come across IP6 before, since 1990s. They switched to NAT routing which allowed one company to use local IP4 address for intranet (192.168.x.x., 10.x.x.x, for example).
Is it time to switch to IP6 or is IP4 still OK?

Comcast offers both, as do most computers, phones, tablets, etc., but some are still IPv4-only. As long as your devices are configured to use either/or, it's probably best to let those devices decide which protocol to use on a particular connection.

I'll add that it's not considered to be an "upgrade". Either protocol does the same thing. Dual stack, (the capability of devices to support either method) is pretty much an automatic function these days.

Hey there Photonaxan. We still support IPv4 as the transition to IPv6 will take a few years to be fully complete. Either way our gateways so supply and support advanced security to defend against cyberattacks.
