Slow Download Speeds

Hi,

Recently I just moved to a new apartment. My last apartment had internet that had no problems at all, but since I moved to my new apartment it didn't have internet. I was told that I had to buy my own since they didn't offer any media packages. They told me that Xfinity was recommended. I have the 800Mps plan, and yet whenever I try to download a game on Steam, I'm getting literal kilobytes a second. The highest the download speed will go up to is 1Mbs??? I've ran speed tests through Xfinity and the highest I'll get is 10Mbs. I've tried troubleshooting the problem all night, but I haven't gotten any luck at all. My PC is directly connected to the modem/router via Ethernet cable. WiFi works just fine, but I'm not sure what else to do. Do I need a new Ethernet cable? Do I need to change the coaxial cable? Would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

It wouldn't be the coax if the WiFi is working OK. Try swapping the ethernet cable. Try the other ethernet ports. No joy ? Have you tried power-cycling / re-starting the device by unplugging it for a minute ? Still no joy ? Try hard resetting the device to factory defaults by pressing and holding in the recessed reset button on the rear (or use the WPS button if it doesn't have a reset button hole) for 30 seconds. This can sometimes clear up some weird behavior issues. You will lose any customized settings, and they will need to be re-configured from scratch if you do the latter. As the last resort, get the device swapped out for another. It may be malfunctioning. We've seen a number of posts here lately about this exact problem. Good luck !

Hey there, Ryan512! Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to us here on the Xfinity Forums. I am sorry to hear about the experience with the connection. It would not hurt to swap out the ethernet cord for a new one, and if there is a splitter, swapping that out too. There are some great troubleshooting steps here for dive into the location connection too. Please let us know if you are still having troubles.

Darn echoes.................... What is swapping out a splitter going to do if their WiFi is working fine ? That shows that the connection to the Comcast system is OK.....
