Ubiquiti UXG-Max Deployment Plan with Xfinity XB8 (Bridge Mode Migration)
Please, I would like to have opinion from this community if my approach to swap the XB8 Xfinity Gateway to the UXG-Max is correct and running low risks of getting in trouble, here is the process that I am working on:
Current Setup:
1 ISP: Xfinity
2 Modem/Router: XB8 (router + DHCP + Advanced Security)
3 LAN subnet: 10.0.0.x
4 Controller: UniFi CloudKey Gen2 Plus
5 Switches: USW Flex 2.5G 8 + additional UniFi switches
6 NAS: UniFi UNAS 2 (2.5GbE)
Goal:
1 UXG-Max as primary router/firewall
2 XB8 in bridge mode
3 Keep same subnet (10.0.0.x)
4 Minimal downtime + rollback plan
Deployment Plan:
1 Install UXG via LAN only
2 Adopt in UniFi
3 Configure LAN: 10.0.0.1
4 Enable DHCP and security features
Cutover Steps:
1 Enable DHCP on UXG
2 Enable bridge mode on XB8
3 Wait 1–2 minutes
4 Connect XB8 2.5GbE → UXG WAN
Expected Outcome:
1 UXG becomes router
2 Minimal disruption
3 Same subnet maintained
4 Full UniFi control
Rollback Plan:
1 Disable bridge mode on XB8
2 Disconnect UXG WAN
3 Reconnect XB8 as router
Questions:
1 Is this staged approach recommended?
2 Is short DHCP overlap acceptable?
3 Will XB8 2.5GbE work reliably (I heard some issues that after enabling bridge mode the speed can be impacted for 2gbs plans)?
4 Any MAC binding considerations?
5 Best practices for smooth transition?
