Upload Speed Woes

I am experiencing issues with getting the as advertised upload speeds while using an owned modem that is on the approved list of devices for my address and plan

I am payimg for 500Mbps down 100Mbps up

I am receiving 740 Mbps down and getting 6Mbps up

I am using an Arris SB8200v3

I need a modem that acts entirely as passthrough (such as the one i purchased and named) unlike the rental equipment which unfortunately is a wifi router also

Did a bit of reading and apparently I could get the rental equipment into bridge mode but at the end of the day I want to own my equipment and not pay the exorbitant rental fee.

If it means anything the speeds i got on the rental modem/router were 540 down and 120 up.

I dont want to throw the "throttle" word around but i just dont get why the speed is so drastically wrong on approved equipment

Although you should probably get more than 6 Mbps upload, perhaps 20 or so, the SB8200 is not compatible with the new higher upload speeds. Only a few retail devices are. See the "Next Gen" list at the top of the "All Compatible Devices" link near the bottom of https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices (at the moment it points to https://assets.xfinity.com/assets/dotcom/projects/cix-4997_compatible-devices/2024.09.18%20Full%20List%20of%20Compatible%20Devices.pdf, but this changes from time to time). For faster upload you need one of Comcast's newer rental gateways (XB6, XB7, XB8) or one of the few retail devices shown in the "Next Gen Speed Tier" group with an upload speed rating in the "All Compatible Devices" PDF:

  • Hitron Technologies CODA or CODA56
  • Netgear CM2500, CM3000, or CBR750
  • ARRIS/Surfboard G20, G34, G36, G54, or S34
  • Ubiquiti UCI 

The Reddit link (if they ever get the page back online) lists the approved devices as well as other requirements for faster upload speeds.

Realize that although Comcast calls some devices "Compatible" and some "Recommended", for all but a few devices those designations only mean "compatible/recommended for use with their Internet service", and not necessarily approved for the new upload speeds.

Comcast could make all of this much simpler and clearer, but they have chosen not to do so.

So, despite the modem i purchased showing up on xfinitys own website under "Devices that work with your Internet speed" it doesnt work with my internet speed?

Its a DOCIS 3.1 32X8 modem that has a significantly higher throughput than my plan calls for but only the upload speed suffers for some unknown reason.

At the very least if it is actually not compatible with the plan I have it would be nice if it said so on xfinitys own website
