Why isn't Xfinity XB8 optimizing 2.4 and 5 Ghz channel use?

Trying to understand why I'm experiencing more wireless disconnects on my home network lately, particularly noticeable with some Apple Airplay2 based music streaming from a PC connecting to the 5 Ghz network.

It turns out that my neighbor's 5 Ghz wireless signal is stronger in my home office than my own signal and is using the same channel (157).  When I looked to change the configuration on my XB8 to use a different 5 Ghz channel, I couldn't find any options to change the configuration.  But I did find this link re: XB6 and newer Xfinity gateways:

  • Most of these gateways have been upgraded with software that manages advanced WiFi settings automatically to help optimize your home network and provide the best performance possible.

If that's true, then why is my neighbor's configuration using the same 2.4 and 5 Ghz channels as mine when there are other unused subchannels?  I don't see that any optimization is happening at all.  From the nearly identical channel configuration of his network, I'd say he's also an Xfinity customer running the same equipment.

Already hugely disappointed that my xFi pod ethernet ports seem to be capped at 50 Mbps, and now I see that the XB8 modem/WAP is apparently too crippled to make better use of available spectrum.   I note that other customers have experienced similar issues and over a year later Xfinity has done nothing to provide customers with the tools to resolve this issue short of buying their own equipment.

Thanks for reaching out as a customer myself I rely on a strong reliable connection as I work from home and I have two teenagers that are having online gamers. Our most updated modems automatically connect you to the best GHZ based off the location of were you wireless device is located as the 5 ghz is for when you are not near the modems & the 2.5 ghz is when your near the modem.

Your Wi-Fi connection is going to be based on a few variables other devices running such as wireless devices or cordless phones or microwaves also how your home is built can determine how well your connection works wirelessly. This link https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/improve-your-wireless-home-network    that's great information on how to improve your Wi-Fi connection

Also depending on your Internet speed if you're not on a speed that is designed for how many devices you have connected at one time that could have an effect on your connection

This link https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/change-wifi-mode-admin-tool-xfinity-xfi that's great information on how you can change your Wi-Fi channels if that's something you need to do for certain devices

The Xfi Pods are just boosters to extend Wi-Fi coverage around the home so they're capped MBPS it's based on the technology of the device and what they're designed to do work for

Our awesome Xfinity app https://www.xfinity.com/apps is a great tool to troubleshoot your Internet connections if there is an issue with your Internet connection the Xfinity app will do some remote troubleshooting steps to see if it can be resolved remotely and if it can't be resolved remotely that will connect you with the chalice system to schedule for a technician to come to your home and fix those issues

You have that backward. It's the opposite.
