WiFi gateway coverage

WiFi performance can definitely be affected by the layout and size of your home especially in large, multi-story spaces. As the signal travels, it can weaken due to distance and physical obstacles like walls, smart devices, bluetooth devices, floors, and furniture. This may result in slower speeds or intermitten connectivity in areas farther from your Xfinity Gateway.

To help improve coverage, we recommend placing your gateway in a central and elevated and open location which helps distribute the signal more evenly throughout your home. If you're using an Xfinity Gateway with xFi Complete, you’ll also benefit from our Whole Home WiFi evaluation. This feature assesses your network’s performance to ensure you’re getting the best possible coverage. Within a day of activating your gateway, you’ll receive an email introducing the evaluation process and highlighting the benefits of xFi Complete. After a 14-day assessment period, you’ll receive follow-up emails with insights into your network’s performance. Based on the results, you may receive one of two messages:

“Your coverage is looking great” – meaning everything is working optimally.
“You’re eligible for a WiFi Extender at no extra cost” – if improvements are needed.

If you qualify for a WiFi Extender, you can redeem it using the link provided in the email. It will be shipped within 5–7 business days. You’ll also find the same order link in the Notification Center and the WiFi Extender Redemption tile in the Overview tab of the Xfinity app.
