WiFi network appearing as open, even though I have a password.
Hello, I've had a problem with my WiFi network. I only have a single network, connected via coax cable.
I've established a password, established WPA2 security mode, etc. This is all fine and well, until I go to connect. The network shows up as an open network (no password), but doesn't let anyone join. I have to hard restart my modem for it to sometimes appear as the correct network with a password (with the lock icon and a password), then connect. It's a gamble sometimes.
What is even worse is that I have to do it every single time I return home. If one of my devices, lets say my phone, decides to disconnect from the network if I leave my home, I have to jump through said hoops to connect back to my home network. It's incredibly infuriating and it's even more of a nightmare when I attempt to have friends and family connect to the network who are new to connecting to my home network.
I've tried splitting bands, hard restarting so that the network would recognize changes, changing the security protocol, unplugging components like the power and coaxial cable, turning off Xfinity public hotspot, and more. Nothing seems to work. I desperately need some assistance on this.
