WiFi Printer not connecting to WiFi on new XFi router

Recently my Xfinity modem/router was replaced with the latest model, Model Name: Xfinity xFi Gateway (XB8-T).  They sent out a technician who came to the house and installed it.  Eveything seemed to check out however, later on realized that my HP X576dw Officejet Pro was no longer able to connect to the router wirelessly.  It connected and worked with the previous router.  I've read through other posts but still not working.

  • Printer and router in close proximity, the same room
  • Printer is up to date with all firmware and software updates
  • Power cycled both the printer and the router
  • Tried using the WPS button on the router
  • Tried entering the SSID and password manually
  • Printer is asking if MAC filtering is enabled, the router is whatever the default settings are at installation which I've read are disabled by default.
  • All my other devices have no WiFi connectivity issues including cameras, lights, computer, laptops, phones
  • What are the next steps to resolve this issue?

user_2554d5 Hello, I am sorry the printer is not connecting to the modem via WiFi. Do you know if the printer requires a specific chanel wether 2.4 or 5 ghz?

The printer supports WiFi and is designed to work on the 2.4GHz frequency band only.  It does not support the 5Ghz band.  However, the modem is supposed to be dual band and autonegotiate isn't it?  It did work with the previous modem from Xfinity.

@user_2554d5 sorry for the delay in the response time frame, but found this helpful post about a printer not connecting to a XB8 gateway: https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/unable-to-connect-hp-printer-to-new-gateway-xb8t/666fa9d8729ad353204c769c

I see some community members stating step 2 outlined by our awesome Xfinity Forum expert @EG was helpful with getting their printer connected. Depending on your Xfinity App version

The admin tool is disabled by default, however, customers who wish to access advanced settings  via the admin tool can manually enable access through a new toggle in the WiFi Advanced settings of the app.

Edit: The Xfinity App version 5.62 is the latest version with the toggle for the admin tool.

I did some more research and found that a possible solution is to connect the printer specifically to the 2.4GHz network SSID.  Do you know if this new router uses separate network names for each band?  Or is there a way I can manually split the frequencies?  I couldn't find "band steering" or how to split the SSID.

* Update  I found the setting to split the bands, tried it but that still didn't work. btw...I found out that the reason I couldn't see that splitting option is because I needed to remove the extenders first.

You can absolutely split the WiFi frequencies. In the Xfinity app, go to the WiFi tab, then select WiFi details. From there, choose Edit WiFi settings and toggle Split bands to On.

Once the bands are split, make sure each network has a different name (for example, one for 2.4 GHz and one for 5 GHz). If the names are the same, devices can have trouble telling which network to connect to, which can cause connection issues.

Looks like that printer has an ethernet port on it.  It's in the same room with the router so I'd just get an ethernet cable and wire it.  1000x easier than getting an old printer to play nice with an XB8.  A quick Google search says that printer came out in 2013.  XB8s tend to have problems with older 2.4GHz only devices.
