WiFi Speed NOT what it is promised

Xfinity sent me a monthly report today claiming to be giving me 708 mpbs download speed.

I ran the Xfinity speed test and it showed I am getting 146.3 mpbs. Then I ran many other site's speed tests that show I am getting Spectrum - 152 mpbs, Google - 165.8 mpbs, AT&T - 170 mpbs.

Yes, I am on my laptop on wifi, but there are no other devices currently running in my house, and I am sitting less than 10' from my router. This is FAR from what is promised and what I am paying for.

That's a bit on the slow side for Wi-Fi (depending on environment, Wi-Fi band, channel, and the device) but I think they don't really guarantee anything about Wi-Fi.

For example, on devices, in the same location, I can get anywhere from 15Mbps on my cheapest Roku to 500Mbps on my best laptop.  And even on tablets, a more expensive one gets around 380Mbps and a value-priced one, more like 120Mbps in the same spot.

strega7 thanks for this comment. You are correct, the best way to test your true speeds is over an ethernet cable.

@user_u09wh6 I would be wondering the same if I were in your shoes too. Our team is happy to help you investigate and troubleshoot your speeds. Sometimes the issue can be Wi-Fi interference, the equipment used is not able to get the full speeds being delivered or could even be the modem is not able to broadcast the speeds. That said we can help you find out the best resolution. To dive deep into investigation of your account please send us a DM with your full name and complete address.
