Wireless computers won't connect

After installing my new gateway, my wireless computers say they can't connect to the Internet with advanced security enabled.

Good morning, @dbtech1 I apologize for the frustration! Our team is happy to assist.

Please send us a DM with your full name and address to Xfinity Support.

To send a direct message:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Message" icon or  https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.

As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.

An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it

@EG​ Xfinity was not able to fix the problem. I talked to advanced technical support and they were unable to do anything. It turns out that the new gateway/modem was developed leaving older technology such as laptops, wireless cards, etc. out in the cold. I was able to connect without a problem to my old gateway (which I received 5 years ago). Upon installing the new gateway, one of my older laptops was unable to connect via wireless due to this situation. On an ethernet cable, it worked fine. This is the only answer provided. If anyone else has better luck, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Hey @dbtech1, Thanks for reaching out through our official Xfinity Forums Community support page. Some older devices may not like some certain network settings. Some options you can try based on the information provided: Turn Off Advance Security, Turn off band steering, purchase a cheap router/AP for the older devices that may not like the current network configuration.
