XB8 settings conflicting with Apple devices
I upgraded to an XB8 approx 3-4 weeks ago. Since then many of our Apple devices are having trouble. They will randomly disconnect even though signal strength appears strong, and then when trying to manually reconnect the device will say "can not connect". I am then forced to "Reset Network Settings" on my Apple device, and then manually connect to the WiFi network, retype in password, and then a strong connection is restored. This is happening on multiple iPhone and iPads specifically, all of which are very new (< 1-2 years old).
A little about network setup. XB8, two 2ng gen Comcast Pods on the upper floor of the house, all frequencies cast the same network name, but the 6Ghz has a different security setting than the 2.4 and the 5 to help maintain connectivity with older WiFi devices in the home. MOCA is turned on and being utilized for some old hard wired devices in some of the bedrooms (TiVos). This setup had no problems with the XB7 that this router replaced.
Have rebooted the router countless times and I can't change the 6Ghz security settings down to WPA2 like I have for the 5 and 2.4 frequencies. Not sure if that is related or not. Firmware version is CGM4918COM_7.6p9s2_PROD_sey
Would appreciate any help.

Not certain (YMMV) but this may be being caused by the MAC address randomization feature that Apple equipment has/does. Try going into the network settings of these devices, and if it's enabled, try disabling it and see if that works. Good luck !

Since I replaced my XB6 with XB8 my Apple devices have not been able to switch from XB8 to a POD. Below is an explanation I found elsewhere and Xfinity must provide us options to make our POD installation to work as it worked perfectly for a long time with the older gateway. The options are either to allow us to permanently disable WiFi 6 on the XB8 gateway OR preferably allow us to configure 2.4 and 5 use WPA3.
Picked this up from another support forum:
I have fully identified the problem and spoke to technical support. The issue is clear: when a WiFi 6 device leaves range, the pod will pick up based on the SSID as it should. However, the WiFi 6 uses WPA3 while the 2.4 and 5 use WPA2. The changing of the encryption protocol seems to be the culprit. I tried disabling WIFi 6 on the router, but some setting turns it back on in a few hours. I confirmed with tech support that there is no way to turn 6 off permanently. So my solution will be to either downgrade the router or use an older mesh system I have. The best solution would be to change providers but I am stuck with Xfinity, as it is the only provider in my area.

From what I’ve experienced, this issue with the iPhones and iPads only occurs when you set the 2.4GHz and 5GHz security to WPA2. WiFi 6E can only WPA3. As an alternate solution, you can simply disable WiFi 6E on the iPhones and iPads, but I recommend that as a last resort.
So, what is not clearly explained to us customers, is that one, you should always have all three networks enabled and using a single SSID and password. Don’t split the networks. Devices, especially newer iPhones and iPads, hate it when you do split the networks. Next, when you set the security of all 3 using the Xfinity app, you should only choose WPA3 Personal-Transition. While this sounds like you’re going to restrict access from those devices that can only accommodate WPA2, it’s the exact opposite. This allows devices capable of WPA3 Personal to connect using WPA3 Personal, while devices that can only connect using WPA2, to still connect with WPA2. That’s where the “Transition” part of the setting comes in to play.
Also, The Gen2 xFi Pods do not even have WiFi 6E (6GHz) capability, for anyone reading this.
Activate all 3 networks and Change the security to WPA3 Personal-Transition. Then power cycle your XB8 and both Pods (for good measure). “Forget” all of your home WiFi networks (In case you have more than one lingering) in all of your iPhones and iPads. Power cycle each of those while your XB8 and Pods are restarting. Once everything is back up and running, “Join” your home WiFi network from each iPhone and iPad.
Let me know when you get it worked out. Good luck.
