X-Class Rollout and new XB10 Gateway

When I joined Xfinity recently I was able to order 1.2G/40M service.  Within the past week it has been updated to 2.0G/300M.

I dislike making assumptions, but in this case it seems perhaps we are headed here to having X Class becoming available shortly.  According to an agent I spoke to, FTTH is not required to get X Class tier.

Should this upgrade happen, would I be entitled to an XB10 gateway regardless of how recently my current gateway has been in service.

Hi there! we’ve been gradually expanding access to X-Class services, and that new 2.0G/300M tier you're seeing is a strong sign that the area could be on the path to higher-tier capabilities. Super exciting stuff!

We always want you to have the right equipment to match the service you’re paying for. So if your area becomes officially X-Class enabled and you upgrade to that service tier, we’d absolutely make sure your gear is updated to support it—no matter how recently you got your current gateway.

We would be happy to check if your area is eligible. Can you initiate a direct message and start with your full name and address? To start a direct message, you must be signed in. Please click the "Direct Messaging" icon in the top right of the page next to the bell, and send your message to "Xfinity Support". Talk to you there!

@XfinityAirelle

Thanks for your reply and your response was perfect.

I’m in Palm Beach county, FL. And yes I realize this is a broad area, it’s not like there’s anything we as end users can do here but wait for things to happen.  When I returned the XB7 to the local Xfinity store, the clerk wasn’t aware of X class being anywhere nearby.   Perhaps though the network upgrade will happen at a wholesale level rather than piecemeal.   Regardless, I’m willing to take that next step when it’s offered.

Cheers

You won't need an XB10 until they implement a DOCSIS 4.0 system in your market area in the future.

@EG Yes, it was my assumption DOCSIS 4.0 was a fundamental prerequisite for symmetrical speeds.  This is what will make comparison with PON based networks a wash.

Customers who add X-Class speed tiers (X-500 or above) will receive the latest Xfinity Gateway. XB10 is available for self-installation with a shipped Getting Started kit for customers who take X-500 or X-Gig speeds.

Me too...I have chatted with multiple live agents, went to many stores...Each time I order (or try to order) the XB10 I am told "Sure no problem, we will ship it out to you"...and they send me an XB8 (twice)  Then I've had other "live agents", tell me the XB8 is the best they have to offer...I can't seem to find anyone who actually knows what they are talking about much less can actually ship me an XB10!

But they have lots of people who can ask a bunch of personal information questions, before they don't answer the yes/no question you actually asked.

@tangretim You’d be much better served if you start your own thread. Otherwise your question might get lost in the mix.
