Xer10 gateway with 2gb fiber to home plan

Look I understand the biggest telcoms company in the US needs to collect as much data as humanly possible from its users, (not gunna argue over that so pls don't try an deny that) but seriously completely blocking the handshake for us to use our own devices. I understand ur average user may not understand and know the required devices needed and that it involves alot of other things .but there is absolutely no reason why us power users who r stuck with a residential plan and don't have business plan access, are absolutely forced to use the bloated hotbox of a device, which restricts my latency to well over 35ms at best which has extremely bad thermal heating issues staying cool especially with 2gb fiber line .sry I'm not trying to be a [Edited: "Language"] it's just really aggravating, when all my unifi equipment shows me I could have 1ms latency.  I like to control my network and only allow the data I approve coming in an out . And bc I'm stuck with running the xer10 in dmz mode bc they blocked bridge mode , it runs like [Edited: "Language"]. I constantly have dropped connections daily if not multiple times a day. It literally is destroying my connection all bc of that little piece of bloated box. I understand most average users wouldnt know what to correctly use but I am 100% certain my equipment can handle the handshake from the ont on the wall.. Why isn't there a workaround for power users to at least request! I'm studying and learning IT and software dev and it's truely causing me issues on a regular basis . Bc the speed is actually pretty dam good and consistent if it wasn't for the latency .. What are the future plans for this and are there any at all talks for a future solution ? At least on request. Like come on , yous are actually ruining a pretty good thing to finally provide fiber in my area . Also altoona pa just got fiber access in Dec of 2025. Are there plans to upgrade to 5 and 10gb speeds anytime soon as well as the stuck in locked hardware problem ?

Bil6ly05 Thank you for reaching out on our Xfinity Community Forums and sharing your setup. I understand why this has been frustrating, especially with the latency and limited control.

You can use your own compatible modem on many residential plans. You can review approved devices and supported speeds here https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices With fiber, the connection is built around the ONT, or Optical Network Terminal. Because of how service is provisioned, a direct handshake from the ONT to personal equipment or a full bypass is not supported on residential accounts today. I know that is not ideal for advanced setups. There is not a request based option for this right now, as the network is designed to stay consistent and supportable across all customers.

Xfinity is continuing to expand fiber and multi gig speeds, though I do not have details yet on 5 or 10 gig availability or changes to equipment flexibility in your area. Your feedback does matter. The connection drops you mentioned are not expected. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

@XfinityChristy ok, the same basic answer anyone gets and I understand you may not have any more details to give but I don't understand how corporate doesn't understand there going to just keep loosing alot of clients this way . You should know as well as I do that unif is advanced networking gear and will handle the ont handshake with out issue.. I just can't fathom how there is not a way , like Iv said even if it's just for advance power users, or IT guys, to be able to make it work some how, at the absolute minimum at least allow bridge mode to be unlocked once you verify I do have the correct equipment and knowledge to handle it.. Can u please make a special request to your boss or there bosses to find out about very limited situations for users that you can verify are a little more advanced and have the right gear , to at least be able to an unlocked gateway, or allow me to run right to the ont from my ubiquiti equipment.. Like I really can't fathom how there just isn't a way, especially when u offer it in business accounts. The node they use next to my house is right next to a distro hub and there isn't very many other users sharing the same gpon hub with me , honestly only one I believe maybe 2. I won't be taking any more bandwidth. Pls let me know

Bil6ly05 I hear what you’re asking, but there isn’t a way to make that happen.

For residential fiber, the connection has to run through the required equipment. There isn’t an option to bypass it, unlock it, or get approval for a custom setup, even for advanced users. That setup is the same across all residential accounts.

There isn’t anything further I can escalate or change on this. What’s been shared already is the full set of supported options right now.
