Xfi XB8 can not upload big files when on Wifi, but uploading big files works fine when connected through Ethernet cable.

Recently I switched to Xfi XB8 gateway for my internet service (1200mbps plan). The download speed and upload speed are fine. But when I try to upload files to the cloud using Wifi, there is always issues. When the files are small (kb or several mb), they gets uploaded fine. But for larger files (>75mb in my case) the upload always fails with below errors.

remote error: tls: bad record MAC

When connected through Ethernet cable instead of Wifi, this uploading issue is gone. I can upload files which are 2GB with no problem using Ethernet cable.

I tried to use my cellphone hotspot Wifi for uploading, everything works fine too.

So I guess the problem is with Xfi XB8 Wifi configurations. But I am not an expert on this and doesn't know where to look for the problem inside the router configurations.

Today, as the third Xfinity technician came to my home to help me with this issue. I asked him to bring an old XB6 gateway. Now with the XB6 gateway, the uploading big files using Wifi is working again.

My conclusion is there must be something wrong with the XB8 gateway (Wifi configurations), which are blocking large files uploads.

  1. XB6 works fine for uploading big files using both Wifi and Ethernet cable.
  2. XB8 works fine for uploading big files using Ethernet cable.
  3. XB8 works fine for uploading small files using Wifi.
  4. XB8 fails for uploading big files using Wifi.

Please investigate on this issue.

I am having the same problem, and it appears a lot of other users are having the same problem. I reached out to Xfinity support and they reset my modem without letting me know it would lose my connection with the chat. They have not reached back out. This is very frustrating since I conduct business from my home, and internet uploads are vital. It has to be a setting in the modem. I need help asap. I pay hundreds of dollars of month to not have it work to its capacity. I tried ethernet connection and it works fine. I uploaded using the same settings in my office at work and it works just fine. It has to be the modem.

It’s great to hear that your Ethernet connection works fine, which indicates the device is capable of handling the data effectively.

 

To help us better understand and resolve the issue, could you please provide more details on the following: Does the issue occur when sending large emails or uploading them to a service? Do you experience these problems with image and video files, or is it across all file types? Are you using a VPN when you encounter these issues? Does the issue occur on both wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wi-Fi) connections, or just Wi-Fi?
