xfinity interfering with SSL connections to Vultr object storage

It appears that Xfinity is interfering with SSL connections to https://sjc1.vultrobjects.com which is one of the locations for Object Storage at Vultr.  Pointing a Firefox browser there gives this error:

SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.

Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG

It fails for other connection tools, like other browsers or the openssl command.

I do not have the issue if I tether my laptop to my phone, thereby using the same computer but a different network provider.  I also don't have the issue if I connect from work.

Is the site being blocked?  Or is something just misconfigured at Xfinity?

Great question, user_chf9lu, and thank you for joining the Forum's community. If you're using a Xfinity Gateway it might be Xfinity xFi Advanced Security. Xfinity xFi Advanced Security blocks websites that are determined to be potentially dangerous. These sites may contain malware, spyware, ransomware or viruses that can infect devices and make them vulnerable to personal data collection, blackmail or attacks on other computers and networks.

If you're trying to access a website that you think is being mistakenly blocked by Advanced Security, submit a request for reassessment at spa.xfinity.com. The request will be reviewed, and an update will typically be provided within three business days.

To submit a request to have a blocked website reviewed for possible unblocking:

1) Go to spa.xfinity.com.
2) Select Report an issue at the bottom of the page.

3) Select I can't reach a website that I want to go to from the drop-down menu. Then, click Continue.
4) Fill out the required fields.

- Enter the full URL for the blocked site.
- Enter your email address to receive a confirmation email.
- Add any other comments you’d like to provide.

5) Click Review.
6) Review your answers and click Submit.
7) You'll get a confirmation email once we receive your report.
